Colorado - SB 200 to expand anti-discrimination protections for gays and lesbians

I learned about this from a Focus on the Family Action alert - they are in opposition to the bill.

Just introduced on March 6, 2008 by Sen. Jennifer Veiga, SB 08-200 will expand language probibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, including transgender status, in housing practices, public accomodation, eleigibility for jury service, availability of family planning services, as well as many other areas.

This is a chance to update the current laws in order to have consistency and predictability in the way Colorado's anti-discrimination laws are applied.  It will also add sex, marital status, disability, age, national origin, ancestry and religion as needed.

Here is the story from Rocky Mountain News:

Sen. Veiga seeks to expand anti-discrimination protections for gays and lesbians

Interesting. I hadn't thought of getting the action alerts from fundamentalist groups, good idea for an extra way to keep tabs on things. Thanks

This Bill, having been passed, now makes it illegal to disseminate, promote or encourage reading the Bible. You see, the Bible states homosexuality is an "abomination" (Leviticus 18:22, 20:13 ) just as is adultery (Ezekiel 22:11). Cf. also Romans 1:26, 27.

Shall I be subject to (up to) a year in prison for bringing these words of God to light ?

Its okay to quote Mien Kampf, but not the word of God? Hmmmm...

Now, I don’t like homosexual behavior any less than any other sin (God knows, I have my own preference, just like you!), but this sure sounds like discrimination AGAINST Christian and Jewish and Islamic beliefs, doesn't it?

In this great country of ours:
We can march against the Jews (remember Skokie, IL in the late seventies? see the opening of The Blues Brothers for a reminder),
We can allow the KKK to continue their practices and
We can allow (even PROMOTE) other such blatant hatred

But to state what the Bible states (and HAS stated for some 2000, even some 3400 years in cases) we can go to prison...
well, I believe things have gone a little too far.

If one wants to partake in homosexual behavior, that's one's CHOICE, but please don't look for special treatment from our governments BECAUSE one chooses that route.

Are you aware that it was as recent as 1973 that the American Psychiatric Association removed homosexual behavior from its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders? It used to be believed, even by the medical community, that there was something wrong with homosexual behavior in people.

Given this road the State of Colorado has chosen to go down, I can easily imagine having special rights for pedophiles (witness NAMBLA.ORG); or perhaps for those who want to marry their dogs; What if I want to marry my sister? What if I want to marry BOTH of my sisters... at THE SAME TIME?

Is it repulsive to you to imagine me, a forty-two-year-old man marrying an eleven-year-old girl? It wasn't that long ago the same feelings were dominant in our society about the idea of me marrying another man. This is NOT HYPERBOLE folks!!! Its real (and in my heart, its a little scary thinking how WE HAVE ALLOWED our society to spiral downward).

My desire is not to "make waves," or be contentious, or anything like that.
Please just consider these things in your own heart.
