Oklahoma - Sally Kern has got to go

You may have heard about Oklahoma legislator Sally Kern recently due to her recent comments about homosexuals being a greater threat to America than terrorism. It shouldn't be surprising, therefor to know that she is a staunch Christian Conservative who advocates for the primacy of Christianity and religion in government. This is all the more troubling since she is highly involved in the education system in Oklahoma.

Sally Kern is responsible for several bills currently in the Oklahoma legislature that are seeking to require religion in the public schools in various ways, from allowing outside religious instruction to count toward school attendance to allowing religious beliefs to count as correct answers in schoolwork and demanding that schools provide time and a platform for students to engage in religious speech.

Here is her legislative profile: http://www.okhouse.gov/Committees/Member.aspx?MemberID=87

Here is an article about her speech on homosexuals: Oklahoma Rep. Sally Kern Defends Leaked Anti-Gay Speech

Here is an article about several bills currently pending in the Oklahoma legislature, of which she is an author of a few of them: THE PEOPLE SPEAK: Bills subvert religious freedom, not seek it

You can see all of the bills she has authored and co-authored here: http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/WebBillStatus/main.html

From the above link select House Bills, Kern, and Principle, Author, and Co-Author (shift+select). You can see that she has authored a lot of legislating dealing with abortion, education, religion, and family related stuff.

Certainly Sally Kern is a legislator that any Oklahoma secular voter should be aware and watchful of. I'm not sure when her seat comes up for reelection, but its certainly something to look forward to and be sure to get out and vote when it happens.

It appears that she may be forced out sooner rather than later due to her remarks on homosexuals. What is all the more disturbing, which isn't being reported on, is the fact that she is so involved in the education programs of the state, that really makes you think about the impact that someone like this can have on young people, and this is disturbing due to both her religious advocacy and her views on social issue (which are obviously related).
